Biarritz is famous for its beaches and attracts vacationers from all over the world during the summer months. It is also a surfing hub, which was made evident by the super dedicated souls we saw jumping into the freezing water to get their morning surf in. In fact, it’s rumored that surfing first came to Europe in 1957 on the beaches of Biarritz.
We spent a chilly morning walking along the beach trails and shopping streets of this seaside town. I think that by showing Evan many of my childhood vacation spots and experiencing Biarritz (and all of Basque Country) during its slow season made me feel more like a local and ultimately, led me to feel more connected to my Basque heritage.
