Le Stanze was once the private chapel of the Bentivoglio’s, the ruling family of Bologna, during the 16th-century. It has since been turned into a restaurant and bar and is quite an unexpected gem amongst the noisy bars and cafes filled with students. Dinner can be a little pricey but if you show up before 9pm like we did, you can feast on their apertivi, one of my favorite things. Apertivo is a god-sent concept where you just pay 1 euro extra with your cocktail and then you gain access to a tasty buffet of cheeses and meats, pasta, grilled vegetables, and more. Even if you don’t stay for appertivi, stopping for a drink is definitely a must-do simply to gaze upon Le Stanze’s beautiful frescoes.
